Base Surges Past 2 Million Daily Active Addresses, Expands Global Reach

The Base blockchain has experienced a meteoric rise, surpassing 2 million daily active addresses, outpacing other Layer 2 (L2) solutions.

While the recent spike in activity is partly driven by airdrops and the introduction of $cbBTC, the main excitement seems to stem from the growing popularity of Basenames, Base’s equivalent of ENS domain names.

The platform’s address growth is staggering. It took nearly a year (323 days) to reach 10 million addresses. However, it took only 47 days to hit 20 million and just two weeks to jump from 40 million to 50 million addresses, underscoring the explosive demand for Base.

Looking to broaden its global footprint, Base has announced a series of regional buildathons across Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America. These events, offering 100 ETH in prizes, will take place between September 27 and October 13, as part of Base’s mission to engage with builders worldwide. Jesse Pollak and the Base team will host in-person meetups in cities like Nairobi, Bangalore, Bangkok, Singapore, and Manila, along with a virtual event in Buenos Aires.

Base Launched Series Of On-Chain Stories For Further Growth

Additionally, Base launched a series of “Onchain Stories” livestreams, providing builders insights into the upcoming buildathons and showcasing efforts to unite local communities onchain. The livestreams will feature regions such as Africa, Latin America, India, and Southeast Asia throughout late September.

In a significant boost, Base also secured a 3 million OP (around $5 million USDC) grant from OptimismGov to fuel an incentive program for DeFi builders. Base has already contributed to the Superchain’s growth, generating 2,625 ETH ($6.7M) in revenue and facilitating over 70% of transactions within its first year.
