Private Internet Access VPN Review

Private Internet Access aka PIA is without a doubt the top VPN to use when surfing the web. With the recent laws passed in the US where ISP’s can sell your traffic data to advertisers it’s only the more reason to choose a VPN to obfuscate your traffic. There is undoubtedly a huge market for VPNs and one may get overwhelmed when choosing a service provider which leads me to start a series of VPN reviews on NullTX.

I’m not going to lie, I have a huge bias towards this company mainly because their claim of not logging user data has been tested in a court case. Almost every single VPN provider out there claims that they don’t log user data, but you can rest assured that PIA’s claims are true.

The other factor that makes this company one of my favorite VPNs is their awesome ad that they took out on the front page of Washington Post. If you don’t remember, last year during the whole drama with passing the laws to allow ISPs to sell your browsing history, PIA took out an ad on the front page of Washington Post which called out the 50 senators who voted in favor of this atrocious bill.

Pros

Politics aside, let’s take a look at the product itself. First of all, the VPN is extremely easy to set up. You simply go to their website, download the client, run it, log in to your account, and choose the location to which you want to connect. It’s a common misconception that people need to have technical knowledge to set up a VPN, however nothing could be further from the truth as it’s as simple as launching Skype.

When it comes to pricing, PIA is one of the lowest priced VPNs coming it at $6.95 per month. Private Internet Access features over 3000 servers in more than 30 locations.

Cons

As much as I love this product there are some areas of concern. First of all, there is no live chat feature. Second of all this VPN is based out of the United States. While it has been proved to not keep logs, things may change in the future. Also, the speed of the VPN aren’t that great. If you are looking to stream on twitch or do video calls then expect your connection to drop once in awhile. Furthermore, because it’s such a popular VPN sometimes the IPs will be banned from certain services. Netflix for example does not support PIA.

Verdict

If you are looking for a truly anonymous VPN while surfing the web, then Private Internet Access is a great choice. It’s both affordable and easy to set up. However, if you are looking for a high traffic VPN for gaming, streaming or video chatting, then this product is not for you.
