Leading the charge, the main memecoin narrative claimed the top spot with a 14.36% share of interest, marking a significant rise from its 8.32% share in 2023—a 6.04 percentage point increase. Within the broader memecoin trend, four subcategories made it into the top 20 crypto narratives of the year:
– 4th place: Solana memecoins with a 7.65% interest share
– 11th place: Base memecoins with 2.13%
– 15th place: AI-themed memecoins with 1.49%
– 16th place: Cat-themed coins with 1.19%

While memecoins stole the spotlight, AI-related narratives ranked as the second most popular category, garnering 16% of investor interest. This includes the overall AI narrative and five related sub-narratives. Although this reflects a modest increase from 2023’s 11.32% share, the AI narrative lost ground to the rapid rise of memecoins.
Real World Assets (RWA) and Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Networks (DePIN) also saw a notable uptick in attention. The RWA narrative jumped to 8.64% interest in 2024, up from 6.48% in 2023, climbing from 6th to 3rd place.
These trends illustrate the shifting focus of crypto investors, with memecoins continuing to dominate while AI and RWA narratives gain steady traction. As the market evolves, these themes are likely to shape investment decisions and drive innovation in the crypto space throughout the year.
